👋 Meet Christina Shala
Christina Shala is the founder of AI School Labs and President of Education by Shala Books. She holds a B.Ed in French Immersion Education from the University of Alberta and brings over 20 years of experience teaching in both Canadian and international schools. As both an educator and a mom to a teenage daughter, Christina understands the challenges facing students from multiple perspectives.
Throughout her teaching career, Christina witnessed firsthand the challenges educators face in creating quality educational materials while managing increasingly complex classroom demands. She watched teachers struggle with time constraints, diverse learning needs, and the pressure to differentiate instruction for every student. This experience revealed a critical gap: while AI tools like ChatGPT were becoming available, they required technical expertise that most educators simply didn't have time to develop.
Christina's work has always focused on creating practical, accessible resources that support teachers in the classroom. Her previous projects include foreign language learning materials, emergent and transitional readers for early learners, and ESBPlanners - a digital planning tool designed specifically for educators. She is also the author of "Empowering the Educator Within" and specializes in developing educational frameworks and individualized planners that help schools implement their vision through collaborative teaching practices.
💡 Why AI School Labs Exists
AI School Labs was born from a simple realization: teachers shouldn't need to become prompt engineers to benefit from AI technology. But it was also shaped by Christina's experience as a parent watching her teenage daughter face the same challenge - not understanding the power of AI tools or how to access them effectively. Drawing on her dual perspective as both an educator and a mom, Christina set out to build AI tools that work the way educators think and students learn - not the way programmers think.
Seeing her daughter unable to tap into the potential of AI for learning made it clear that students needed their own specialized tools - ones designed specifically for their educational needs and skill level. This personal insight, combined with her classroom experience, led to the creation of separate labs designed for different users: Teacher Labs for educators and Student Labs for learners.
Instead of requiring complex prompting skills, AI School Labs transforms educational expertise into simple forms that automatically generate the sophisticated instructions AI needs to create professional-quality materials.
